Bonterra Trattoria sits at 1016 8 Street SW, in the heart of downtown Calgary. The room does a lot of the talking before the food even arrives: chandeliers overhead, a glass-enclosed wine cellar along one wall, and a rustic stone fireplace that's kept dinners warm through more winters than we can count.
The kitchen keeps to a simple line — contemporary Italian fare, built from the freshest local ingredients, with a Mediterranean twist and no unnecessary fuss. It's a menu meant to be shared: focaccia torn by hand, a bowl of cacio e pepe passed around the table, a bottle of something Italian opened slow.
When the weather turns, our Tuscan-style private terrace opens up like a second dining room — a quiet outdoor escape just steps from the sidewalk, built for long lunches and longer dinners.
Bonterra was named Best Italian Restaurant in Calgary at the Where to Dine Awards, and has been a regular favourite in Avenue Magazine's annual restaurant rankings. More than the plaques, though, we hear it from the people who keep coming back — regulars who've made Bonterra part of their week for years.

Reservations open daily. Groups of 7 or more, or private events, are best arranged by phone or email.
